dGs over Cutters

Cutters 0 v dGalacticos 3In dreadful weather conditions this evening, both sides got stuck in and delivered fiery performances with no quarter asked or given.Cutters direct approach was met with similar tactics from gG's as every tackle and ball was contested full on. When both sides concentrated on football it was a decent match, with some good chances created on both sides. John Slattery's side were creating chances and Eoin Begley was marshaling his defense well. Jamie Dundon will be happier though as his side responded well and delivered three unanswered goals from among them two from Brian...

Lightning stun Reds

Lightning 5 v Reds 1A John O'Sullivan Hatrick was just part of the story that saw Lightning leap frog Reds in to second place in the table and keep their title challenge alive.Reds were rocked by two early goals from Lightning in the opening minutes of the game, that in truth Reds never recovered from. A free kick from outside the box expertly guided into the back of the net by John Lysaght leaving keeper John Fitzgerald  stranded and a cracking goal form  Derek White when he rose highest in the box to nod home a smashing cross from the right.Reds upped  the pace wth Leslie Barrett and...

Briersfield Scoop all the Spoils

Briersfield 6 v  Scoopers 1Briersfield go 4 points clear at the top after a workman like performance over Scoopers in tough conditions at UL this evening. But it was Scoopers that took the game to Briersfield early on and carved open a sleepy Briersfield and  Keith Shine's defense with ease.Eddie Price rattled the bar when he caught a volley at the edge of the penalty area, and Price was on target a few minutes later when he rose unchallenged to see a Gerry Crowley cross from the left into the back of the net.Scoopers continued to create chances as Briersfield struggled to settle, but Briesfield kept...

No Holding Brakes

Lim Brakes 3 v Wembledines 0In a fiery enocunter, two highly comitted sides battled hard in a dismal night in UL this evening. Baz Hourigan, Liam O'Brien and Mark Ryan got on the score sheet to keep Brakes in with a shout of the title as they try to recover from some early season poor performances. However Wembledines gave them a tough contest as they battled for everything and at the break there was nothing between these sides. In fact both sides were equally matched, util Baz Hourigan got the opener that knocked the stuffing out of Wembledines. 'Dines battled on as Barry Dwane looked to control...

Briersfield Stay Top

Briersfield 1 v  Limerick Brakes 1 A quite affair for a top of the table clash. Both sides played fast attacking football, the surprise was that there was not more goals. The Brakes piled on the pressure early on with Trevor Cosgrove and Baz Hourigan having shots saved by The Fields keeper John Riordan. The league leaders had a great chance to take the lead right on the stroke of half time when Eddie Shine penalty rebounded off the crossbar. After the break The Fields midfield took control at this stage with Keith Shine and pulling the strings. With fifteen minutes to go Tom Murphy gave the...

Reds Close The Gap At The Top

Reds 3 V Superscoopers 0 How Scoopers managed to stay scoreless in this game is very hard to imagine, They had a bag full of chances and a combination of good keeping from Jim Fitgerald and poor finishing left the Reds off the hook. The first half Scoopers squandered two super chances. The first one fell to Pat Monagher who saw his free kick sail just went inches wide. The second a ever better opportunity fell to Greg O Brien but Fitzgerald was on hand to produce a super save. With half time only seconds away Reds got a vital goal when Ballynanty striker Frank Lee swept past two defenders to...

Cutters Pipped At The Post

Stonecutters 1 V Craic Merchants 2 for a long time in this game it looked as if Clonlara lads Cutters would take all three points. In the end Steve Gleeson's Merchants scored two late goals to grab the points from under Eoin Begleys side nose. Alan O Connell had a chance early on for Cutters when a cross from Brain Woods sent him clear but his shot was saved by Declan Barriscale. Another chance for the Cutters fell to Paul Collins but once again Barriscale was on hand to divert the ball over the bar. Cutters took a deserved lead when Begley found Kevin Nolan and the Ballynanty striker made no...

There All Again Us

I went on the Captains run on Saturday. The Captains run takes the form of a visit to the Milk Market then onto the Augustian and St Michaels Churches. The tradition has built up over the years before big Munster games. It’s always very exciting on match days in Thomond. I remember I played there a few times. I played for my local club Thomond and we were very successful. We never won anything in the early days as we were up against a Richmond team powered by the great Colm Tucker. I remember two finals in Thomond under 12 and 14 City Cup. We were beaten by at least thirty points in each game...

New Year

The New Year has come and we are all looking forward to the rest of 2012. It’s popular around this time of year to make resolutions. I never make new years resolution as I have found that I never keep them and it’s not good to start a New Year on a negative (That’s my story).Around this time of the year people like to consult astrologers, the stars and tarot readings to try and find out what’s in store for them in the New Year.  I met a man this morning and we were talking about the New Year and he said that if we knew what was in store for us some days we would never get out of the bed....

Happy Christmas

This time of the year can be a sad time for families. We think of all the lads who are now working overseas and hope they are home for Christmas. I especially think of this year all the lads from Rowanbridge who had to leave Ireland to find work. They were the backbone of the league for years. I hope they are all keeping well. I know they are following the league on the NET. To all the lads that take part each Friday  I wish you and your families a happy Christmas. Hopefully the New Year will bring jobs,a new sense of hope in our communities and above all peace to you all.  God bless....

Like Ronan We Must Believe

His done it again. Just when we settled for two points up stepped Ronan O Gara to repeat his great drop kick of last week. Believe we must believe. When everyone around you is beginning to shake you must believe. Ireland at the moment is not a place that people can believe in. Huge salaries and not just for Bankers but from the leader of the football association in Ireland. John Delaney’s salary is reported to be €400,000. It’s difficult to square this salary with the fact that most Football clubs are finding it difficult to field Schoolboy and Junior teams due to lack of finance. The lack...

Common Sense Is What We Need

I was really worried as I spotted the fog rise and start drifting across the pitches. I thought that we would have to call the final two games off. Fortunately the fog drifted up and down the pitch and eventually went off towards Clonlara. Talking about Clonlara I was very sad to hear of two young lads from the Clonlara area who play for Stonecutters who are off to Australia this week. Senan Nihill and Tommy Lynch played for the past few years with the Cutters and it’s a sign of the times that young lads have to emigrate to earn a living. We wish them the best of luck and sincerely hope that...

The Dark Days Of November

It’s that time of the year. Getting up and going to bed in the dark. Halloween and the budget and after that the big push to Christmas which now starts on the first week in November. At least the Presidential election will be over and our new President will be installed with his big salary for seven years. The budget will once again screw the PAYE worker and bring anybody on the minimum wage close to the stage where they might be better off out of work. This is a crazy and dangerious situation for our Country to get into where you could be better off staying in bed rather then working.People...

Don't Be Like Stephen

It's a dark damp day. Wales just knocked themselves out of the World Cup. Poor old Stephen Jones. Why didn't he take a chance for a drop gaol when he was right in front of the goals. What would have he lost. I supposed it's easy for me snuggled up in the comfort of home to say that. He has the pressure of the crowd the occasion, the world press and TV.Would we take a chance. The same is true in everyday life. We see a lot of people without jobs. Available for them are many courses and opportunities to train and improve their position. Why don't some of them take a chance ?. Confidence maybe....
