Cutters slip past Brakes

Cutters 2 v Limerick Brakes 0

Cutters Barry Mahony and Mark Mulcahy were on the mark as they eased past Brakes with two well taken goals in poor conditions at UL this evening.

Manager John Slattery will be happy with his team, once he gets to know them! But, as we close out the season special mention this week for both team managers who keep it all on the road with phone calls, texts and money collection.

Well done to John Slattery and Eoghan Begley of Cutters and Derek Casey of Limerick Brakes.

Best of luck in the remaining games of the season and the end of season, Cup and Plate competitions

Best for Cutters, Manager John Slattery  - Best for Brakes, Manager Derek Casey

Briersfield Out On Their Own

Briersfield 6 v Merchants 0

Merchants gallantly hung in for long periods of this game, made it a contest and came close to levelling at 1-1, before a rampant Briersfield opened up and scored 6 unanswered goals to head into the end of the season at the top of the table, no one can catch them now.  Goals this evening came from Tom Murphy, Eddie Shine, John Gibbons, 2 from Paul Fitzgerld and one from super sub John Riordan.

Again, we salute both managers for their commitment  and hard work, for newcomers Merchants and Steve Gleeson, who have continued to improve throughout the season and to Darren Shine who has brought Briersfield to the current excellent standard in only their 3rd season in the LWL. Well done in the League and good luck to both teams in the Cup and Plate competitions.

dGalacticos grab a point

dGalacticos 1 v Wembledines 1

A late penalty by Skinner for dGalacticos rounded up a decent season for the newcomers, who have to be pleased with finishing mid-table with a mouth watering cup game against Lightning to come.

Paddy Koyce and Jamie Dundon worked tirelessly in midfield as they struggled to find an answer to Wembledines John O'Sullivan's early goal. But they kept going to the final whistle winning a penalty that was superbly taken by Skinnner, with time running out.

Guest player Niall Kearns and Barry Dwane were involved in some nice football that saw Wembledines dominate for large portions of the game, but were unable to convert the domination into scores.

Lightning finish on a high

Lightning 2 v Scoopers 0

Lightning dominated possession early and were rewarded when John O'Sullivan converted from close in, but Declan McGrath's men were determined to have a go at it and with Tom Walsh, (just back from injury) and Eddie Price looking dangerous, it looked for a while that an equaliser would come. However under the watchful eye of Damien Patton, Lightning got a second when David O'Brien grabbed a goal that secured all the points for Lightning.

Once again we salute the tireless work by managers Daminen Patton for Lightning and Declan McGrath for Scoopers in the many texts, and phone calls and the money they collect to keep the show on the road. Well done to both teams and good luck in the upcoming Cup and Plate.

Best for Lightning Manager Damien Patton -  Best for  Scoopers Manager Declan McGrath

Briersfield Edge Closer To The Title

Reds 3 v Briersfield 3  This top of the table clash produced one of the best games of the season.  Some of LWL supporters questioned if the Reds had the appetite to sustain their challenge for the title this year. However on their second half performance the Reds gave them their answer. The Leaders Briersfield opened the game in scintillating form. They sprayed the ball all over the Park with Rob Gibbons and Darren Shine finding gaps in the Reds defence. They went ahead when top scorer Paul Fitzgerald availed of a defensive mix up to beat Reds keeper Jim Fitzgerald at the near post. Reds were all over the place at this stage and only for some cute defending by Ray O Halloran and Brien O Regan would have been further behind at the break. Experience counts for a lot in the game of football. Reds have experience in abundance. They moved ex Pike man Eddie O Donovan to midfield to stem the tide of the Fields possession. It worked and Reds got back in the game with a super goal from Balla man Frankie Lee. The Leaders reacted well to this setback and hit back with a goal from Tom Murphy. Back came the Reds when a great pass from Declan Casey saw Leslie Barrett score with a great header. Reds had their tails up at this stage and only for great defending from Dara Gleeson and Keith Shine they would have been in the lead. They did get ahead with ten minutes remaining when Niel Diegnan made ground on the left and his cross was nodded in by Neil Hanrahan. Briersfield never give up and a quick break saw the Referee award a penalty. Eddie Shine made no mistake with the kick. Reds had great chances to win the game in the remaining minutes but the Field held on to keep themselves well on track for the title. Man of The Match Reds Philip Collopy Briersfield Dara Gleeson.

Lightning Close The Gap

Wemblines 0 V Lightning 1 The lowest scoring game of the nigh saw a hard fought affair between two very capable sides. Lightning had more at stake then the Dines as they moved up the table and are in serious contention for the runners up spot. Lighning had a storming opening period. Time after time they created chances with Gerry Guinan and John Lysaight drawing good saves from Dines keeper Mark Higgins. The Dines settled and they had opportunities from Eamonn Rice and Wainer Martins. They found themselves one down when Tommy Guinan found Ger McGrath and his cross was slotted by Ex Corbally striker John O Sullivan. The second half saw chances for Lightning from John Riordan and David O Brien. The Dines had great efforts from Matteo Cullen and Peter Clarke. Man of the Match: Dines Alan Connors Lightning Kieran Likely
